Previously, I had mentioned how upon walking out of a local health food store, I had seen two chanukias (menorot) with only four candles plus the shamash (servant) candle; yet, that particular day was the seventh day of Chanukah. Today, the day after Chanukah, I noticed that someone over there took my recommendation to bring the candle placing up to date for the implicit sake of admirers of the chanukiah (menorah).
I do not often receive the immediate effect, wherein something I said takes root and bears fruit; even with such a simple act as this, I feel blessed. Perhaps, in some small, yet, meaningful way, I can rest assured now, knowing that, for me, Chanukah seems completed by this act of kindness.
The cashier that I spoke to yesteday could have totally sloughed off my recommendation; instead, she took me seriously enough to make a difference. Perhaps, for me this kind act is akin to the difference a smile can make in another person’s life.
May we all be imbued with the spirit of kindness for the sake of others. Amein.
